Relax, our nation’s bacon supplies are safe

The story circulating the world about a looming crisis in the bacon supply has turned out to be a load of porkies, just self-serving propaganda by the British National Pig Association. Who saw that coming?

(The dead giveaway was that the media release urged consumers to  “make a point of selecting pork and bacon with the British independent Red Tractor logo”. Now how would that help alleviate a shortage?)

Still, this is what happened when the BBC did vox pops around the world:

In Dallas they asked, ‘Excuse me, what is your opinion of the world bacon shortage?’ and people said, ‘Shortage? What’s a shortage?’

In Riyadh they asked, ‘Excuse me, what is your opinion of the world bacon shortage?’ and people said, ‘Bacon? What’s bacon?’

In Beijing they asked, ‘Excuse me, what is your opinion of the world bacon shortage?’ and people said, ‘Opinion? What’s an opinion?’

And in Tel Aviv they asked, ‘Excuse me, what is your opinion of the world bacon shortage?’ and people said, ‘Excuse me? What’s excuse me?’
