The details of why Australian wool is particularly to be targeted are, frankly, unpleasant. The sort of things Aussie farmers are accused of doing to sheep are not the sort of things I’d like to have done to me, whether or not the intention is to improve their health in the long run.
But are these animal rights activists pulling the wool over our eyes? Is it disproportionate to be whining about the welfare of the sheep who provide the wool while ignoring the plight of the $3.50-a-fortnight sweatshop workers who make the clothes?
I mean, it’s not as if we have the human rights situation sorted out yet, why can we afford the luxury of bleating about animal rights?
