A slow or low-quality train. Portmanteau of ‘shit’ or ‘shitcan’ + ‘shinkansen’, Japanese high-speed train.

Often used in reference to the Sydney-to-Newcastle train journey (eg, Aaron Hewett and Marcus Westbury).
